PetroRenova Indexed, Scientific Journal of Energy, is a wide-ranging international publication in the areas of oil, gas, and renewable energy, published by Petróleos y Renovables SA. It is a specialized scientific journal, indexed and peer-reviewed under a double-blind system. Its open access publications are licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (BY-NC-SA).

Its publication is quarterly, and its main objective is to disseminate previously unpublished content (in Spanish and English) with the aim of expanding knowledge in the energy industry, from innovation to sustainability, in the construction, optimization, and scientific growth of the future, with epistemological and methodological perspectives, in the industrial sector at the national and international levels.

PetroRenova Indexed is aimed at researchers, professionals, teachers, students and anyone interested in deepening their knowledge in the areas of oil, gas and renewable energy, since, due to its interdisciplinary nature, it contributes knowledge, constructs, theories, methods and other approaches, in its publications such as scientific articles, reflection articles, opinion pieces, essays, reviews, interviews, among others.

PetroRenova Indexed is committed to the scientific community in meeting high standards of ethical behavior and good practices at all stages of the editorial process and to ensuring the quality of the intellectual productions published, our electronic journal, supported by the Open Journal System (OJS) pays special attention to security aspects that help protect the data and metadata of all publications. This is part of the compendium of principles referenced in the Code of Conduct and Good Practices defined by academic organizations such as the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), the Oxford University Press Department (DOAJ), the Open Access Scholarly Publishing Association (OASPA), and the World Association of Medical Editors (WAME). Regarding the use of Artificial Intelligence, the journal considers the principles proposed in the Heredia Declaration on its responsible use. These organizations identify transparency principles and best practices for editors, authors, and referees of scientific journals in general to apply in their academic and scientific publications, with the goal of achieving high standards in editorial ethics.

Our Code of Ethics and Good Editorial Practices is a compilation of publications by the aforementioned organizations. We therefore express our conviction that it is important for research in the fields of oil, gas, and renewable energy to be widely available and used under the principle of open access to science. We ensure the quality of our publications, protecting and respecting their content and integrity.

General publication principles

These principles encompass honesty, transparency, communication, integrity, accountability, and respect in all aspects of research; in addition to the above, PetroRenova Indexed provides specific policies for authors, reviewers, editors, and the Editorial Board.

Editorial independence: We are committed to editorial independence. In all cases, we avoid conflicting interests or influences of any kind.

Open Access: PetroRenova Indexed upholds an open access editorial policy for its content, based on the principle of offering the public free access to research, contributing to a greater global exchange of knowledge and enriching humanity's scientific and cultural heritage as a whole. Thus, publications in PDF format can be downloaded free of charge.

Academic freedom: We do not discriminate against authors, editors, or reviewers based on their personal characteristics or identity. We are committed to incorporating diversity, eliminating barriers to inclusion, and promoting equality across race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexual orientation, nationality, religion, and disability throughout the publishing process. We reject any abusive behavior toward those involved in the editorial process; any complaints should be made through the contact information specified on the journal's website.

Editorial process: from the moment authors submit their manuscripts to the journal, we guarantee:

  • Rigorous and fair pre-review before sending to reviewers, according to the areas of expertise. This process is carried out as soon as the manuscript is received. The manuscript undergoes an originality check to detect duplicate or plagiarized content. For this purpose, anti- plagiarism tools are used . These tools also allow the input text to be compared with databases to identify similarities, and perform a grammar and spelling check.
  • Double-blind peer review, in accordance with the standards established on the website.
  • supervision of the peer review process to protect the confidentiality and anonymity of participants.
  • the processing of the manuscript for publication, in the order that the Editorial Committee considers.
  • the assignment of the Digital Object Identifier (DOI).
  • Publication in one of the two issues per year, according to the frequency. The journal does not publish special issues. Likewise, it is declared that there are no limits on the publication of articles by country or geographic location, as they may be proposed from anywhere in the world and published once approved by the Editorial Committee.

Responsibility of the authors

Authors are solely responsible for the information contained in the article to be published. Therefore, by requesting publication of their work in PetroRenova Indexed, they will guarantee:

  • strict adherence to and acceptance of the editorial criteria established by this journal.
  • the originality of the articles as products of their work as researchers and that the data presented have been obtained ethically, so they must send a letter of originality, stating that they do not infringe copyright.
  • The exact spelling of your last name and first name, according to your identification documents, as well as your email addresses, institutional affiliations, and ORCID. If any spelling errors are made, please request a correction by emailing the editor.
  • that co-authored works will have a justification that expresses the full consensus of adherence to the research guidelines of all the authors involved.
  • that the work has not been reviewed or published in another journal or in any other means of dissemination.
  • that they are not proposing a redundant publication, which is understood as when two or more documents share the same data, hypotheses, points of discussion or conclusions.
  • Respect the authorship of all sources used in the preparation of the article, including images, graphs, figures, tables, and any other type of material. Therefore, they must provide accurate bibliographic, newspaper , electronic, or other reference information, as well as the data collection methods and techniques that made their work possible. They also agree not to omit any significant material.
  • declare the use of AI in accordance with the principles of the section on the role of authorship established in the Heredia Declaration, sections 3 to 7.
  • that the content of the article contains sufficient details and references to allow its reproduction, without issuing fraudulent or inaccurate statements, this aspect is unethical and unacceptable.
  • Attention to editorial and academic observations and opinions in a timely and clear manner. When, for various reasons, you disagree with the criteria and observations made by the referees, always intended to improve the article, you must justify your position in writing to the editor, who is the competent authority to decide what is most appropriate.
  • Any violation of the above points constitutes unethical and unacceptable conduct; consequently, the proposed article will be eliminated and not considered for publication. Likewise, the author may not be considered for any activity related to the journal.

Responsibility of the reviewers

PetroRenova 's reviewers (evaluators) Indexed:

  • They undertake to maintain the confidentiality of information related to the articles they evaluate.
  • They only accept manuscripts related to their areas of knowledge.
  • Makes significant observations, supported by supporting arguments, regarding aspects of the manuscript that need improvement, without expressing inappropriate personal criticism of the author. The goal is to achieve a quality final work.
  • In case of incorporating the use of AI it will be only as a complement to the review, with prior participation to the editorial team and in compliance with the principle on the role of Review of the Heredia Declaration in its section 8
  • They undertake to carry out their opinion in an objective, impartial, responsible and rigorous manner.
  • They demonstrate a willingness to clarify doubts and all matters related to compliance at each stage of the arbitration or evaluation process.
  • They comply with the estimated times for the arbitration process, fill out and send to the editor the instrument for article arbitration, available on the journal's website.

If you fail to comply with any of the above points, the journal reserves the right to revoke your membership in the referee portfolio.

Responsibility of the editors

In response to the COPE Code, the editors of the PetroRenova Indexed journal :

  • guarantee the integrity of academic literature.
  • They comply with personal information confidentiality laws throughout the editorial process. Therefore, they do not accept manuscripts submitted using a generative Artificial Intelligence tool, as this violates the authors' confidentiality and property rights. If AI is used in any part of the editorial process, this must be evidenced in accordance with the principle regarding the editing role of the Heredia Declaration.
  • They may not disseminate or distribute any information presented in the article they are evaluating until it is published by the journal.
  • make available to the general public the usage metrics and reporting of the editorial process.
  • They clarify doubts for authors and reviewers in the evaluation and editing process in the heat of developing their specific activities, in accordance with the parameters of our editorial policy.
  • promote accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion in all aspects of the publishing process.
  • They base editorial decisions solely on academic merit, free from bias and exclusionary environments.
  • They guarantee compliance with the review, editing, evaluation, and publication deadlines for the work. In the event of any delay, the authors must be informed of the reason and given the opportunity to withdraw the manuscript if they so choose.
  • They publish the dates of receipt and acceptance on the articles.
  • They ensure impartiality both in the reception of the articles and in the evaluation decision.
  • They act at all times in accordance with editorial criteria and the editorial line.
  • They guarantee compliance with the double-blind academic review system, so the journal is committed to safeguarding the anonymity of authors and reviewers.
  • They inform the authors in writing of the result of the arbitration process.
  • They guarantee the digital preservation and long-term accessibility of content in various online bibliographic databases, both their own and open access, with weekly backups organized on media that guarantee their integrity. The preservation actions implemented include data rejuvenation, consistency verification, and technological updating.

Responsibility of the Editorial Board

  • supervise the editorial content and update the journal's topics according to emerging scientific advances, as well as regulations and instructions.
  • promote the journal in order to obtain potential authors.
  • Evaluate the results of the application of scientific strategies and propose updates, if necessary.
  • advise researchers on editorial ethics standards.
  • Guide the rest of the staff involved in the editorial process regarding compliance with current regulations and the contributions generated from teamwork.

Retraction, Correction and Errata Policy

PetroRenova Indexed, in compliance with the COPE Code of Retractions, undertakes to retract any article that, after the pertinent review during the editorial process, reveals research misconduct due to noncompliance with the discipline's ethical and scientific standards, redundant publications, plagiarism, conflicts of interest, or serious and unreliable inaccuracies in data.

Retractions will be carried out transparently; the final decision rests with the journal's Editor. The Editorial Board will inform the authors of the reasons for the retraction by email, and the reason will be published on the journal's website and in bibliographic databases. The process is as shown in the COPE Retraction Diagram.

If minor errors are detected that do not significantly affect the content and/or understanding, the author is notified so they can be corrected. If the error is due to the journal's editing or production, an errata is issued and published in the next issue.

Conflict of Interest Policy​

PetroRenova Indexed ensures that any publication is free from undue influence—financial, non-financial, professional, contractual, or personal—in the submission, review, or publication of the work. Therefore, it requires authors to declare any conflicts of interest they may have related to their research. Reviewers must also declare any conflicts of interest they may have related to the articles they review. The journal reserves the right to reject any article suspected of containing an undeclared conflict of interest.

Misconduct

At PetroRenova Indexed does not tolerate plagiarism or self-plagiarism in publications. We reserve the right to check received manuscripts using an appropriate plagiarism detection tool, including any ideas, words, data, or other material produced by another person without referencing the source.

Cases of controversy

The journal is committed to resolving disputes through the Editorial Committee in cases where peer reviewers indicate a conflict of interest with the text under review. The journal guarantees that the most suitable reviewers will be selected, including in terms of thematic and academic compatibility. In cases of doubt, the Editorial Committee will always be consulted to resolve these cases.
